PE Pipes

Ensuring the safe transport of gaseous fuels is essential in the gas distribution sector, where integrity is paramount.

ACU-GAS PE pipe stands out as the preferred system for underground natural and LP gas mains, as well as distribution pipelines.

Produced in either a Full Yellow CoExtruded jacket for the Western Australian market or with a Yellow Strip for the Eastern States ACU-TECH have a solution nationwide.

Our gas poly is an ideal, cost-effective and durable underground pipe for LPG and natural gas pipelines. The main benefit of using ACU-GAS poly pipe for your underground gas pipeline, is that it is cost-effective.

It comes in long lengths to reduce the number of joins, enables the use of underground boring, and really speeds up the installation process. ACU-GAS poly can be laid in the same trench as water and other mains, reducing earthworks costs enormously, without the risk of confusing pipes and connections. Polyethylene piping is renowned worldwide for its ability to withstand even earthquakes, protecting vital infrastructure, and reducing maintenance costs.

ACU-GAS™

Key features & benefits.

  • Approved for below ground installations under AS 5601-2004: Gas Installations
  • Full yellow coating for clear identification
  • Electrofusion or butt fusion jointing method creates a completely homogeneous joint which is stronger than the pipe itself.
  • Integrity and durability proven in the field by utilities Australia wide.
  • Flexibility of pipe allows cold bending to accommodate minor changes in direction, and also accommodates ground movement.
  • Manufactured to AS/NZS 4130 “Polyethylene – PE – pipes for pressure applications” and AS/NZS 4129 “Fittings for polyethylene (PE) pipes for pressure applications”
  • Acu-Gas is available in 20, 40, 63, 110, 160 and 225 mm diameters as standard stock items. Larger sizes made to order.
  • Coils of up to 100 metres are available in 20, 40, 63 and 110 mm diameters, vastly reducing the amount of joints in a pipeline
  • The relatively light weight of Acu-Gas makes it easy to transport, handle and install, offering overall project savings.
  • Electrofusion fittings can be used to weld gas pipe lengths, including using mechanical tapping bands, gas tapping saddles and branch saddles.
  • Very high safety factor: According to AS5601-2004, operating limit is 200 kPa, whereas the hydrostatic design pressure for Acu-Gas SDR11 pipe is 2000 kPa (before safety factor).
  • Live main self-tapping electrofusion tapping saddle fittings available for “hot tap-ins”.
  • Electrofusion welding equipment can be used for joining PE gas pipe, as well as PE pipe scrapers or turbo pipe scrapers, isopropyl welding wipes, and towing heads for HDD.
  • Gas flow through Acu-Gas pipe can be stopped by using a “squeeze-off” tool, where interruption is required for emergency, repair or tee-in operations etc
